Huayna Picchu
The Huayna Picchu hike is a must for adventure-seekers when visiting Machu Picchu. Offering breathtaking views of the Inca citadel from above, you can really appreciate the incredible surroundings -nestled between sheer jagged mountains high up in the clouds. The trail itself can be challenging, with narrow paths, steep inclines and the ‘stairs of death’, but its well worth the effort.
Inca Citadel
This site itself was built in the 15th century and includes dry-stone walls and agricultural terraces. It remained unfound during the Spanish conquest, hidden by the jungle for centuries, but was discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. The site served the Incan Empire as a religious and ceremonial center, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To get to Machu Picchu, travelers first arrive at the small town of Aguas Calientes. With no vehicles except the buses that go up to Machu Picchu, this charming town is synonymous with nature. The icy waterfalls, butterfly farm and majestic mountains make this town well worth exploring. To visit, take a train from Cusco which takes 3-4 hours and offers stunning views.
